Amateur Blog Tip 032: Get Rid of MS Word Curly Quotes
October 18th, 2008 Posted by Amateur BlogsI like using MS Word sometimes for composing quick Wordpress posts but get frustrated when I paste the text into the Wordpress HTML editor and end up with weird characters, in particular, those darn curly quotes.
Here’s how to configure MS Word so you never have to deal with this problem:
- From the pull-down menu select Tools, AutoCorrect Options.
- Click on the AutoFormat tab.
- De-select the option titled “Replace straight quotes with Smart quotes”.
- Click the OK button.
Problem solved.
By the way, I have no idea whether this is blogging tip #32. I simply chose a number. Deal with it.

hahaha… It appears you have been by my blog….
Yes and I’m glad I did!
I started reading your post about Turnip’s site and thought “hmmn, I wonder what my blog title tag says.” I checked and saw that it read “blogstruk.com”. Duh. So I quickly made the change, switched back to finish reading your article, and saw my name and site mentioned!
I was going to leave a comment on your site like “Why Griz, I don’t know what you’re talking about, my title tag is perfectly optimized”, but I knew you’d out me.
It’s because of you that I now have 2 perfectly optimized back links. That’s 2 down, 598 more to go . . . !
Hi Chanya,
I sent you a reply to your email last night but I have been having some email issues and just want to verify if you received it. Please let me know. If not I will re-send.
Griz:
I got it and just sent a response. Thanks so much for responding so promptly. Keep your fingers crossed for me - or should I say paws?
