Website Traffic Stats: What Tools Do You Use?

August 7th, 2008 Posted by Chanya

I love StatCounter. It’s simple to use and understand. You get free log space. Once you exceed the free quota, you can purchase more space.

Up to a point that is.

Because of one of my niche sites I’m fast approaching the 100k limit. So I thought, no problem, I’ll simply purchase an additional 100k. I sent in my $499 to StatCounter and eagerly awaited the increase in log space. No dice. The nice folks at StatCounter informed me:

“An account can have a maximum 100,000 log size only. You cannot buy multiple upgrades and club it together.”

Say what? Why not? Wouldn’t you think they’d let you do that since it provides them with additional revenue?

Apparently not.

Now, understand that with StatCounter even if you exceed you allotted log space you can still use the software. The system simply starts dropping your older stats from the log.

But I want something that will give me an overall picture of traffic growth. I want something that will show me the date on which I first started receiving traffic and track it up to the current date. I want something that doesn’t have a log limit, or at least allows you to pay for unlimited log space if you so choose.

So I’ve got a question for you experienced bloggers and website owners:

“What traffic stat programs do you use? Do they provide unlimited log space? Are you able to purchase additional log space?”

Holler back.

I like google analytics - its easy to add to your site, you can use it for multiple blogs under the one user name, and it breaks traffic into days. Its analysis is clear, useful and easy to understand. Mmmm not sure about any size limits though.

Thanks for the suggestion. I need to install the Google Analytics plugin and check it out.
