Which U.S. State Has the Most Blogs?
February 16th, 2008 Posted by ChanyaAs I was driving home last night I thought about the fact that I hardly ever have anyone from my home state of North Carolina visit this site. As a matter of fact, a few weeks back when a visitor from North Carolina showed up in StatCounter I immediately figured out that it was a friend of mine. This got me thinking:
Which states have the most bloggers?
Which states have the least bloggers?
I started by looking at my own stats to see if I could answer this question. I have 3 active blogs which are vastly different so I thought their traffic could provide an assessment (albeit totally unscientific) of which states have the most bloggers. Okay, I’m assuming that people who visit this site have blogs of their own and yeah, yeah, I know there are lots of flaws in this logic overall but . . . so what.
Here’s what I found:
States With the Most Bloggers
#5: Arizona
#4: Texas
#3: Florida
#2: New York
#1: California - highest number of blogger visitors overall
Compare that to:
States With the Lowest Number of Bloggers
#5: West Virginia
#4: Alaska
#3: Mississippi
#2: North Dakota
#1: Wyoming - lowest number of blogger visitors overall
Surprisingly enough, there was lots of overlap between the 3 blogs. For instance, Arizona, Texas, and California were among the top blogger states for all of my blogs. Likewise Alaska and North Dakota made the “states with lowest number of bloggers” list for all 3 blogs.
All states were represented. Before I crunched the numbers I’d taken a guess as to which states would have the highest number of bloggers. I correctly guessed California, New York, and Florida. I also had Georgia on the list but they didn’t make the Top 5 list.
Since I searched the web looking for stats on which states have the most bloggers and came up empty I’m officially declaring my list to be the authority source on this topic.
Disagree? Too bad. Get your own list.

This was an interesting post, I enjoyed learning where the numbers were coming from.
Did you divide the posts per state by the population per state? This will give you “per capita” and not punish the states with lower populations.
I checked here…

4 of your 5 “most” states are the largest states. But Arizona (#16) is surprisingly bloggy.
