Yahoo I Won! or “How I Made More Money on Blog Contests Than From the Ads on My Site”
February 8th, 2008 Posted by ChanyaYes, that’s correct. I’ve made more money online by winning blog contests than by any other means. My first win was Bloggrrl’s Cornbread and Black Eyed Peas contest. The prize? Homemade cornbread personally cooked by Bloggrrl herself plus a case of black eyed peas OR $25 added to your PayPal account. I opted for the quick cash because I don’t think I could have made my way through a case of black eyed peas.
My second win was from Emma of It’s Write Now. The prize? A copy of Aaron Wall’s SEO Book or $79 credited to my PayPal account. Since I have the book already I opted for the money.
By the way, Emma’s running a weekly contest at her site that you should check out. To enter simply subscribe to her feed and email her the secret information included at the end of her feed posts. Easy peasy. Get your entries in by Sunday each week. Emma’s got some great content on her site so after subscribing to her feed take a gander at some of her articles.
Now, my conclusion? Since this blog is primarily about blogging and there are tons of people that know LOTS more about that topic than me (or is it I?), this clearly isn’t a “money making” venture for me. I’ve already removed the BlogRush widget and the BlueHost banner from my sidebar. Next up on the chopping block? Hmmn. Amazon might need to be pared down a bit.
That’s okay though. I didn’t start this blog for the money and I’m not writing posts hoping for any sort of payoff. Although I’m working on 2 new niche blogs which I hope WILL make a little moolah I promise you, my 38 loyal RSS subscribers, that I’ll continue writing the life changing and awe inspiring posts you’ve come to expect from me. Heh heh.
