Contest Updates: Visit NOW to Win
December 27th, 2007 Posted by ChanyaAs you know, a few days ago I wrote about the Wikigiz blog contest. They’ve created a device called the gizmo-meter (similar to a status bar) that progresses along as more people visit the site, leave comments, subscribe to their RSS feed, or click on an ad. The lucky person whose action causes the gizmo-meter to hit the 100% mark wins the blog contest. The prize is a 4GB thumb drive.
As of this writing the gizmo-meter is at 96%!
I’m not sure which actions cause the gizmo-meter to move the quickest, but I’d assume that leaving a comment or subscribing to their RSS feed counts more than simply visiting their site. If I were you (or is it, “was you”?) I’d start visiting their site on a regular basis, reading their posts, and leaving comments. Since it’s already at 96% I can only guess that it will reach the 100% mark within a very few days. My calculations show that it’s moved 25 percentage points in 16 days. That comes out to an average of 1.6 percentage points a day. If the gizmo-meter moves at the current rate it will reach 100% in less than 3 days.
Additionally, Emma from It’s Write Now is running a Words to Know blog contest. It’s simple to enter: Emma lists 10 “Words to Know” in her post. You choose 4 of those words and use them in sentences. Submit your entry via a comment. Emma will randomly choose one entry and the winner gets $20 credited to their PayPal account. The contest ends Monday, December 31st.
I really like Emma’s contests because they’re always fun and easy to enter. As a matter of fact, Emma submitted the “keep it simple” suggestion as a blog tip for folks running blog contests. It’s sound advice - how many times have you turned away from a blog contest because the entry rules were either too confusing or too complicated?
Anyway, these are two contests you should check out. And of course, you must enter my blog contest!

Chanya, thanks for the kind words. The contest does seem to be catching on. I like that it’s fun and original. I have some really good entries this time. And as usual yours is at the top. Very creative! I like the names you gave the charactors. But then I also liked your last entry a lot. It’s funny but by reading peoples fictional comments you can kind of peer into their personalities a bit. Everyone was pretty creative this time.
Emma: Thanks, I enjoyed writing the entry! And I agree, you’ve received some really creative submissions this time.
