Wikigiz Contest: Do (Almost) Nothing and Win a Prize
Posted by Chanya
This is probably the simplest blog contest on the planet.
Wikigiz is running a contest at their site. All you have to do to enter the contest is, well, just go to their site. No, I’m not telling you to go to their site to get more information about the contest. I’m saying “to enter their contest you simply have to visit their site.”
They have something called a Gizmo-meter that progresses as more and more people visit the site, submit comments, subscribe to their feed, and click on their Google ads. If you’re the person whose visit, comment, subscription, or ad click puts the Gizmo-meter at 100%, you win the prize, a 4GB USB flash drive.
When I first started writing this post the Gizmo-meter had progressed to 55%. Four minutes later the Gizmo-meter was at 63%.
To test their Gizmo-meter I left a comment. They moderate their comments so I didn’t immediately see a change in the Gizmo-meter bar. After 32 minutes I hit the refresh button; my comment was still in moderation but the Gizmo-meter had moved to 64%. I can only assume some other readers were on the site and that’s why it increased.
The Gizmo-meter is now at 66%.
12/10/07 update: The meter is now at 68%.
12/11/07 update: The meter is now at 71%.
I think the concept is pretty unique – go check it out. However:
You have to do one thing for me: you have to promise not to tell AdsenseTracker about this contest. She has uncanny luck when it comes to winning blog contests. I can see it now: tonight she’ll be Stumbling to different sites and because of some alternate-reality-planet-alignment-cosmic-karma-mystic-pizza thing she’ll Stumble to the Wikigiz site at the exact moment the Gizmo-meter hits 100%.
I promise you. It can happen.

LOL!! You’re too funny. Besides, I went over there and clicked around and that little guy never moved off of 66%
Thanks for the link
I’m not sure how many clicks and page loads it takes to make the Gizmo-meter move up a percentage point, but while I was writing the post it moved up a bit.
Although it’s a new site (created in October), looks like the site owner has already given away one prize using the Gizmo-meter. I’m going to give it a try and visit it several more times tonight and tomorrow since the Gizmo-meter is already at 66%, even though the contest just opened yesterday!
Wikigiz Contest: Do Nothing and Win a Prize…
With most blog contests, you have to exert some effort in order to enter: submit comments, write a post about the contest, subscribe to an RSS feed, etc.
What if all you had to do was access the site where the contest was being held? Sound too good …
Hi everyone. First of all, thanks Chanya for the review of my blog which was recently launched a month ago.
The contest is REAL and I did have the prizes to give out (check the prize) I have given out a prize already, will post the winner soon.
Why I’m giving out such “too good to be true” prizes?
Simple. I want to get more traffic and readers to my young blog! I did not spend money on advertising, instead I use that budget to buy gadgets to reward my readers. I invented the Gizmo-meter to attract people from coming back to visit my site.
If you have any suggestion for me, please send me an email.
Patrick: You’re welcome and thanks for dropping by. I’ll be visiting your site regularly to check out your content and monitor the progess of the Gizmo-meter.
[...] you know, a few days ago I wrote about the Wikigiz blog contest. They’ve created a device called the gizmo-meter (similar to a status bar) [...]
