Is Your Wordpress Editor A Little Spacey?

December 7th, 2007 Posted by Chanya

Is it just me, or is there something wrong with the Wordpress Visual editor? I’m unable to enter line breaks. Well, let me clarify: I enter several blank lines by pressing the Enter key but when the post is saved the extra lines are stripped out.

If I use the Code editor and insert <br> or <p> tags and then save the post the same thing occurs: the tags are removed.

I’ve researched this at the Wordpress.org discussion forum. Looks like other folks are experiencing the same problem. It appears as if some people think this feature got “broken” in Wordpress 2.2. Although I’m using Windows Live Editor to create my posts, I would like the ability to tweak them in Wordpress after they’re been published.

So, Wordpress users:

-Have you experienced this problem?
-If so, what version of Wordpress are you using?
-More importantly, do you know of a fix?

David: Thanks so much for the advice! I’ll definitely download this.

I had the same problem. My eventual solution was to stop using the visual editor, write all my posts in a text based html editor (coffecup free html) and paste them into the blog. Also under options->writing uncheck the box next to “WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically”.

Brook: Thanks for the tips. Yeah, I’m using Windows Live Writer for composing my posts but would like the ability to make minor edits using the Wordpress editor.

I’ve unchecked the box as you recommended.

Also, I really like your blog - you’ve got some good content. Just became a subscriber.
