I Don’t Digg the Digg Categories
November 11th, 2007 Posted by ChanyaMost of the blogs I read each week fall into one of these 3 categories:
-blog tips
-making money online
-personal experiences
Lately I’ve decided, in addition to leaving comments at blog sites, if I really like a post I’m going to take the time to Sphinn, Digg, or Stumble it. This is easy of course because almost all of the sites I visit have links for doing this.
Here’s the issue: If I’m the original Stumbler or Sphinner it’s fairly easy to find a category in which to place the article I’m trying to promote. Not so with Digg. The category selections at Digg don’t fit the 3 blog niches listed above.
So I thought, what are most people blogging about? Does Digg not include categories for these niches because those type of blogs aren’t very popular? According to Technorati’s Most Popular Blogs list, there are quite a few people out there reading about and linking to blogs in those categories. As a matter of fact, 3 of the Top 10 Blogs write about blogging and making money online.
So what gives Digg?
Okay, I know Digg’s tagline is “All News and Videos”, but have you seen how many articles they have on their site about blogging? My cursory examination shows that most of these articles get placed under the category Technology and the sub-categories Design, Programming, or Software. Not really a good fit is it?
So here’s my request to Digg: please revisit your category list. Review the subject matter of the articles being posted to your site and consider expanding the list. This will help organize your site better and make it easier for readers to find articles in a particular niche.
What do you think? Do you submit articles to Digg? Do you have trouble selecting the right category for those posts?
