Don’t Blog So Close To Me
November 9th, 2007 Posted by ChanyaI’ve been scraped! I think that’s what it’s called. Someone copied my content and put it on their site. They didn’t copy the entire post though – about one-third of the post was copied to their site and they provided a “Read More” pointing readers to my site for the rest of the post.
Questions For My 5 Readers
1. Have you ever been scraped?
2. Did you contact the scraper and tell them to stop or did you decide not to bother?
3. If someone scrapes part but not all of a post, does that qualify as scraping?

Is this not a good thing? Surely it will widen your audience?
Ste: yes, I was thinking the same thing.
Exactly, it is a link back to your site that you have not paid for.
Also, is your content on Technorati?
They also use your blog content on a page that hosts ads served to the reader based on the content of YOUR post.
I wouldn’t worry about it but if it bothers you, there are lots of posts around that show what you should do.
Andrew: yes, I agree. If the guy had just scraped the content and not linked back to my site that’d be a different thing.
Good for you!!!How I wish the same could be happening to me regularly.
I am having this exact same issue, they are scraping the first few paragraphs and saying so and so wrote this and then they send the reader to my site. But the person that they say wrote it isn’t the name of my blog. Does that make sense?
I remember reading about this at John Chow here is the link to his post: http://www.johnchow.com/scraping-the-scrapers-with-feed-footer-wordpress-plugin/
I am not fond of this scraping because for some reason it is not showing up on Technorati as a link back and duplicate content takes away form page rank I think and Google also frowns upon it. Plus, the blog that is scraping my content is not fully built, the about us page is the standard wordpress message etc. I am very suspicious of this.
I am so glad you wrote this post. I am going to ask them to stop.
Update:
There isn’t a contact form or email on the scraping blog. So now what to do?
HOW did my pisture show up on your ‘previously readers’???
JOY:
Where do you see your picture? Are you looking at the avatars in the footer?
