WriteToMyBlog: A Nifty Little HTML Editor

October 12th, 2007 Posted by Chanya

Ever since I started blogging I’ve been looking for a free, wysiwig html editor, specifically, something that would let me easily create tables. Yes, I know I can do this in MS Word and then copy-n-paste the code into Blogger, but have you seen the crap that MS Word embeds in their documents? Honestly, just creating a simple sentence results in more than 20 lines of code.

So, I was happy to stumble upon a free product called WriteToMyBlog. The premise behind the product is that it lets you create blog posts that can be published to your blog site. We’ll discuss that wonderful feature at the end of the review. For now, let me tell you about the table creator. In the course of about 3 minutes I was able to create a fairly nice table. It took all of 5 steps:

1-click on the Create Table icon

2-enter the number of columns and rows:

3-select the background color :

4-merge several cells in one row:

and:

5-change the background color for the merged row:

This is what it looks like:

Again, this only took a few minutes and I’d never used the product before.

WriteToMyBlog is advertised as a “free web-based word processor for your blog.” I think it makes good on that statement. Here are some other things you can do in the product:

-create complex tables (you can even add background images to your tables)
-easily insert and remove table columns and rows
-split and merge table cells
-insert special characters
-undo/redo edits
-cleanup messy code
-insert layers and change your layer ordering (not sure what this is but it sounds impressive doesn’t it?)

And the Most Cool Feature?

After I created my table I clicked on the “Manage Posts” button. I was then asked to select my blog platform. The product is compatible with all of the major platforms: Blogger (old and new), WordPress, TypePad, and Movable Type, as well as Dot Clear, Meta Weblog API, and Atom API.

After selecting “Blogger” as my platform, I was then prompted to enter the email address associated with my Blogger account. Once done, the system connected me to Blogger, asked for permission to access my Blogger posts, and displayed all of my posts in the WriteToMyBlog interface. It took about 15 seconds to do this. I’m now able to manage all of my Blogger posts (and create and publish new ones) with their easy to use html editor.

You might want to start by watching their video tutorial (you know how I love video tutorials), or you can just jump in like I did and start using it. Either way, if you want more functionality in your html editor and the ability to embed some of the elements I mentioned above, check out WriteToMyBlog. I think you’ll like it. And no, I’m not getting paid to review this product!

Do you have an html editor you like using?
