Rub-A-Dub-Dub: No Decaf In My Tub

July 29th, 2007 Posted by Chanya

Have you ever watched video clips from some of those silly Japanese TV shows? I saw one the other day where the contestants (all male) stand onstage, legs apart, over levers in the floor. Each contestant is then asked a question. If the answer is unacceptable, the lever springs up and hits the contestant between the legs. Hard. After a day of groin-slapping torture, I imagine you’d need to go somewhere special to relax. The Hakone Kowakien Yunessun Spa is just the ticket. Check out their unique theme-based spas:

Coffee Spa

"The spa contains real coffee made with hot spring water. It has been said that coffee is an effective treatment from the recovery of fatigue, and also adds beauty to the skin. The aroma of the coffee will also perk up your senses."

I wonder if you have a choice of regular or decaf?

Japanese Sake Spa

"There is a constant dripping from a huge cask filled with real Japanese Sake. It is said that Sake is very good for the beauty of your skin. It is an enjoyable experience taking this type of bath. A unique Japanese experience."

I guess the lifeguard issues DUI’s (diving while under the influence).

Green Tea Spa

"A unique spa containing real green. The huge tea pot is 2m tall and is very remarkable. The tea is from the foot of the Tanzawa and Hakone mountains, known for a suitable climate for growing tea plants. The green tea grown in this area is rich in aroma and contains Catechin, a powerful anti-oxidant which fights tumors as well as enhances the immune system. Also, good for the skin."

This simply can’t be sanitary.

I could never go to a place like this because, although I’d be grossed out by the potential germs in the water, I’d also be tempted to drink it. Just a taste.

That looks awesome; I guess here in the South it would be sweet ice-tea baths though. That doesn’t sound quite as appealing!

I’m with you, these beverage baths look nasty - I don’t think my mind would let me enjoy it! Cute blog!

A touch of lemon with the tea may help kill the germs?

Christina: thanks-I hoped someone would get it.

Honeysuckle Rose: I agree, the ice cubes would get in the way!

Harriet: I just wonder how often they change the beverage water.

Sueblimely: Perhaps that would work, with a little chlorine thrown in for good measure!

Thanks to all for visiting. Come back soon!

NOTHING surprises me when it comes to Japanese culture.
Those baths DO seem unsanitary but I too, would be tempted to take a sip..lol

Merri: I know, especially if the coffee bath smelled like nice fresh-brewed coffee! Thanks for the visit!
